By March 2023, Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, has given the necessary instructions to connect the Thar Coal Mines to the National Railway Network.

On Wednesday, he gave these instructions while presiding over a meeting in this regard. The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers, Ishaq Dar, Khurram Dastgir, Ahsan Iqbal, Special Assistants to the PM, Jahanzeb Khan, Zafaruddin Mahmood, and other senior officials. The CM of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, while the Federal Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, joined the meeting virtually.

The project will be carried out in cooperation with the Federal and Sindh governments. In this regard, the PM and Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sinch, signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The initiative, according to the PM, will ensure that Thar coal is available to the local industry, including the Jamsoro and Port Qasim power plants, and it will be utilized in place of imported coal, saving over $2 billion annually.

He gave a deadline of March 2023 and instructed the relevant authorities to make sure the project was completed on schedule.

In order to restore the damage the prior government made to the nation over the course of the past four years by stopping ongoing initiatives, he emphasized the necessity of moving quickly to complete the development projects.
