After being suspended on August 26 due to extreme floods in Sindh province, Pakistan Railways has decided to resume passenger trains to Karachi beginning on October 2.

Rehman Baba Express and Khyber Mail will resume service to Karachi on October 2, according to a railways spokeswoman.

He added that the decision was made in a meeting presided over by Railways Minister Saad Rafique, adding that starting on October 5, the Karakoram, Karachi Express, and Business Express will run between Karachi and Lahore.

According to the spokesman, the travel from Karachi to Lahore will take 22 hours, and more carriages will be added to the trains. After 30 days, the trip’s length will be reassessed and gradually cut short.

On September 24, railway officials announced that the track repairs, which were caused by the region’s disastrous floods, would be finished by September 29.

According to officials, booking for the route’s trains would start within the following two days.

On September 20, Pakistan Railways announced a 10-day extension to the suspension of train service out of Karachi due to track damage from Nawabshah to Khairpur.

Customers that paid advance booking fees would be refunded by the department.

According to officials, “train tracks have begun to dry at several spots from Nawabshah to Khairpur, while it is underwater from Paddidan to Bochheri.”

The track from Paddidan to Bhirya Road station is totally dry. They said that train service between Bochheri and Paddidan may be resumed at a 15 km/h caution zone.

A track condition survey is being done by the department from Ran Pathani station to Khairpur.
