At a ceremony held at the SBP offices in Karachi on August 14, 2022, the design of this commemorative banknote was presented.

The public will be able to purchase the commemorative notes starting tomorrow from SBP BSC offices and Commercial Banks’ branches. According to section 25 of the SBP Act, 1956, this notes is accepted as lawful money for all transactions in Pakistan.

Following the release of the first commemorative note in 1997 to honour the country’s 50th anniversary of independence, this is the second commemorative banknote that SBP has produced. SBP collaborated with regional artists to create the ideas and concepts for the banknote’s obverse and reverse sides.

The commemorative banknote was created to honour the individuals who made significant contributions to Pakistan’s creation and to raise public awareness of the effects of climate change on the environment. As a result, the Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal, Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan are depicted on the banknote’s obverse.

In view of the extraordinary devastation brought on by the recent torrential rains and flooding in many areas of Pakistan, the reverse of the banknote emphasises our country’s commitment to addressing climate change and its effects on Pakistan.

The portraits of the national animals Markhor and Deodar on the reverse also draw attention to the threat of extinction and the necessity of protecting these species.
