In order to restore freight and passenger trains, Pakistan Railways has begun rehabilitation work on the railroad rails. To remove the floodwater, a group of engineers and workers have begun to repair the damaged track segment.
A trial run of an inspection train has reportedly begun to examine the track’s upkeep, according to sources in the railways.
The carriage department workers must finish technical work and perform fumigation in passenger coaches by October 5 per instructions from the PR authorities.
The decision to start running the freight trains on October 1 was taken in the first phase, subject to the water receding and the clearing of signals and bridges.
Director of Maintenance and Services Salman Sadiq Sheikh also acknowledged that the maintenance tasks associated with the transportation of passenger bogies kept the railway workers quite busy.
“The technical maintenance of the passenger bogies and those in the workshops will also be rectified and made part of the operation before the train operation is resumed,” he told this correspondent.
Similarly, Chief Engineer Amir Nisar stated that staff members were working in various shifts day and night to maintain the railway infrastructure.
Technically, every damaged segment of the railway track is being repaired, he continued.
