In Salford, UK, a British-Pakistani Woman has been chosen to represent Higher Irlam and Peel Green. Mishal Saeed, an Oxford alumnus running on the Labour Party ticket, won by 1,317 votes.

It is an honor to have been chosen to fill the position of councillor, she said, adding that it will allow her to better serve her communities and the city.

I was honored to be chosen as the Labour Party candidate by the people in my district. The Labour Party has a remarkable record of improving people’s lives; from establishing the NHS to implementing the minimum wage, they had a significant impact on people’s lives all around the nation.

Citizens have a fantastic opportunity to voice their ideas on local issues and how they should be resolved during local elections. Saeed said that the Labour Party is in a strong position to guide the UK through all of its issues and that she is glad to be a member of the movement and contribute to improving people’s lives.

Her priorities in her new position, she said, would be to lessen the effects of the cost-of-living crisis, support high-quality jobs in the area, push for strict action against crime and antisocial behavior, improve public services and the environment, protect green spaces, and support new developments in the area.

“These are the issues that matter to people. I will work hard to enhance the lives of residents, she emphasized and added,

I will stand up for workers’ rights and combat all forms of injustice, inequality, and discrimination. I would like to thank my numerous instructors and mentors in Pakistan who helped me develop the leadership and critical thinking abilities that have been essential in my journey to public service. I am a graduate of Lahore Grammar School and Convent of Jesus and Mary, Lahore.

At the University of Salford, Saeed hosted TEDx events and received the Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Seal of Approval for her business activities while serving as the President of the Student Union. Saeed was a part of various Pakistani groups as a student.
