Samina Baig has become the first Pakistani female to summit the world’s second-highest mountain, K2.
The adverse weather conditions above the higher camps on K2 had previously impeded the progress of mountaineers who were striving to reach the summit.
Several mountaineers, including Abdul Joshi of Hunza, had to cancel their summit plans; however, most were determined and eager to go for the summit once conditions are clear.
Naila Kiani, Samina Baig, Wajid Nagri, Steffi Troguet, Sirbaz Ali and Kristin Harlia waited for ropes to be fixed and the weather to get better.
The 31-year-old mountaineer, along with other climbers, reached the summit on Friday morning.
Pakistani woman Samina set the record for summiting Mount Everest in 2013 at the age of 21. Since then, she has gone on a number of different expeditions around the world.
It is noteworthy that K2 summit is 8611 meters high, coming second only to Mount Everest by 200 meters.
