Visiting the city of Makkah to perform the Hajj and Umrah is a dream for Muslims all over the world. However, going on the holy pilgrimage requires a lot of preparation.

Not only must a person have a strong intention to worship in the Holy City, but they must also be physically and mentally prepared, as well as have the financial means to do so.

Although the cost of performing the Hajj or a lesser pilgrimage to Makkah is not cheap, many Muslims are still unable to make the journey due to financial constraints. Many have to work hard and save for years in order to afford the trip.

However, an inspiring story about a Muslim man’s struggle to make the journey to the Holy City comes from an elderly man who came from Africa. Despite living a humble life, the man was finally able to go to Makkah to perform Umrah this Ramadan after making a great sacrifice.

The story was first shared by Kuwaiti journalist Nayef Al Rashidi through a video which quickly went viral on social media.

In the video, Rashidi is seen chatting with an old man sitting beside him inside the Grand Mosque. The man is an African who had sold his only house so that he could go on the Umrah pilgrimage during Ramadan this year.

In his Twitter post, Al Rashidi accompanied the video with Arabic captions which translate to: “He sold his house to go for Umrah in Makkah. God bless him in this world and replace him with a home in heaven.”

Many people on social media agreed with the caption written by Al Rashidi. They were touched by this noble act and blessed the old man for his huge sacrifice. He has indeed set an example of being careless of the world for the hereafter.
