If you are struggling in compiling a perfect resume, take heart from the fact that even global business tycoon Bill Gates had to start somewhere. Gates shared his resume on LinkedIn from his college days back in 1974, when he was enrolled at Harvard College.

While sharing the 48-year-old resume on the business and employment-oriented social media platform, he said to the followers that he was sure that their resume looks a lot better than his own.

On Friday, William Henry Gates III, better known to the world as Bill Gates, gave his followers a glimpse into his nearly five-decade-old resume. The 66-year-old billionaire-philanthropist was in his first year at Harvard University at the time. And while he suggested he felt otherwise, the one-page document shows his student life was quite replete with achievements.

While sharing the 48-year-old resume on the business and employment-oriented social media platform, Gates wrote: “Whether you’re a recent grad or a college dropout, I’m sure your resume looks a lot better than mine did 48 years ago.”

At the time, Gates had already taken a lot of courses and “received A’s” in all of them. While most first-year students have no experience to show, his resume was quite the opposite. To his post, LinkedIn gave a reply that many of those who’re struggling like to hear: “Everyone starts somewhere.”

Gates, who co-founded the tech giant Microsoft as the world knows, and also the non-profit – Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – is followed by over 35 million people on LinkedIn, the professional networking site.

On his post, a comment – right below – that drew a lot of attention was: Dear Mr. William H. Gates,

Thank you for expressing interest in joining the Microsoft team. We have reviewed your qualifications and, while we are impressed with your achievements, we have decided to pursue other candidates at this time. However, we will keep your information on file and will be happy to reconsider you for any future openings that may be a match for your skills.

Thank you for your interest and we wish you the best of luck in your career endeavors.
