West Indies cricket team arrives in Multan for ODI series

A 26-member West Indies cricket team arrived in Pakistan on Monday to play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Pakistan as part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League matches at the Multan Cricket Stadium (MCS).

Pakistan’s 16-member squad arrived in Multan on Sunday ahead of the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, with the opening ODI taking place on 8 June.

Pakistan Squads:

Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imam-ul-Haq, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris (wicketkeeper/batter), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper/batter), Mohammad Wasim Junior, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shahnawaz Dahani and Zahid Mahmood.

According to reports, the West Indies ODI squad, headed by skipper Nicholas Pooran, arrived at Islamabad International Airport this morning. Later, the visitors took a chartered flight to Multan.

West Indies Squads:

Nicholas Pooran (captain), Shai Hope (vice-captain), Nkrumah Bonner, Shamarh Brooks, Keacy Carty, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Shermon Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Anderson Phillip, Rovman Powell, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, Hayden Walsh Jr.

Three ODIs will be played between Pakistan and West Indies on the 8th, 10th, and 12th of this month at Multan Cricket Stadium after a 14-year absence.

It should be mentioned here that the series was initially scheduled at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, but due to the political unrest in the twin cities, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the federal government shifted the series to Multan.

The picturesque Multan stadium has hosted seven ODIs with Pakistan winning four. In its inaugural ODI, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 137 runs in September 2003. The two sides also played the last ODI at the venue to date, which the hosts won by seven wickets.

In the second ODI here on 30 September 2004, Pakistan had recorded the biggest win, in terms of runs, at the venue when they defeated Zimbabwe by 144 runs.
