Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister, has urged the business community to concentrate on the development of export-oriented industries like information technology and agriculture.
He was chairing a conference in Karachi of a group of business leaders to work out how to deal with the country’s financial difficulties.
The Prime Minister committed to establishing Export Industrial Zones around the country, where exporters would be supplied with the required infrastructure and One Window Operation to handle their concerns.
Shehbaz Sharif also emphasized the importance of developing the solar and wind energy sectors to provide green and renewable energy. He said that Pakistan could not afford to pay $20 billion on oil imports per year.
He emphasized the government’s decision to prohibit the import of luxury and non-essential commodities, claiming that it would save four billion dollars annually, enough to cover yearly palm oil imports.
