A large crowd of students, teachers, and football fans attended the ceremony at the NED University of Engineering and Technology. The first football stadium is the joint venture of GSV Pakistan and NED University.

GSV is looking to organize the Pakistan Football League — the first franchise football league in the country. GSV has signed Michael Owen as its global brand ambassador. They have also inked a US$12 million deal with the NED University to create a modern soccer city in Karachi.

According to a statement from the NED University, Karachi:

“They will build football stadium Karachi in accordance with the infrastructure standards of the European Football Association.”

Addressing the ceremony at NED, Michael Owen said:

“The passion of Pakistanis for the sport is amazing. Pakistan is a wonderful country for football.”

Michael Owen also expressed pleasure at being a part of the “historic” transformation of the sport in the country.

Today, Michael Owen will attend the inaugural ceremony of the PSL 7 at the National Stadium Karachi. He will also visit the Lyari Town area in Karachi. Lyari town is also known as “mini Brazil” for the passion of its locals for football.

According to a statement from the army’s media wing:

Michael Owen also met Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Rawalpindi last Tuesday
