Pakistani saving life is something we don’t see being broadcasted that frequently. Dr Akhtar has made Pakistan proud by contributing in such desperate times. Using technology as a pioneer to connect, he is treating patients via Telemedicine Software. A doctor with the vision of giving his services to the Nation and anyone in need. He believes that irrespective of one’s specialization, doctors should actively help people in this pandemic to have as many resources in use as could be.

Doctors like Dr Muhammad Ashraf Zia, whilst sitting in one of Lahore’s major hospital, Jinnah Hospital, claimed that sharing information on such a platfrom has proven to be very efficient. A total of 250,000 coronavirus cases have been reported in Pakistan with 5000 death toll. Though, Pakistan has relatively fewer doctors to treat the patients which in itself is a roadblock, technologies like these help to ease the process in times like these.

Pakistanis Contributing Digitally

Another staggering initiative taken by one of a Uk based Pakistani doctor, Dr Suhail Chugtai has actually built the Telemedicine Software so that the digital communication between practitioners find no hindrance across borders. This software enables them to share data, case notes and stay linked visually. Not only this, but he has also extensively worked with the Pakistani government so that doctors from the UK, the USA and Ireland can stay connected digitally without being physically present at the hospital in order to avoid exposure.

A charity by the name of Midland Charity created by British Pakistanis is also serving the purpose of helping healthcare to be accessible in Pakistan. Built after the catastrophic earthquake of 2005, it has already established a hospital in Muzaffarabad. Its members are also facilitating Pakistani doctors to be trained online.

This sets quite an example for Pakistani doctors abroad who believe in sticking to their roots in grave situations. Efforts of such people really create hope in the midst of a global pandemic and them being from Pakistan just puts the cherry on the top.
