Japanese envoy Toshikazu Isumora enjoyed a ride on newly inaugurated Green Line Rapid Transit Service with the ordinary passengers.

Japanese Consul General in Karachi Toshikazu Isumora visited the newly-inaugurated Green Line Bus Rapid Transit Service (BRTS) on Tuesday and enjoyed a ride with ordinary passengers. The Japanese consul general paid a surprise visit to the BRTS Numaish Chowrangi station and lined up to buy a ticket.

He travelled with ordinary passengers from Numaish to Golimar neighbourhood of the metropolis and inspected the different features of the rapid bus service. “Such services are common in Japan, however, I am delighted to witness modern transport facility in Karachi,” he said while expressing his views about the BRTS. The Japanese counsel general added that he would again visit the BRTS once its services became fully operational.

Prime Minister Imran Khan earlier this month inaugurated Karachi’s much-delayed BRTS project. The trial run and limited scale services of Green Line bus began on December 25. According to the organisers, Green Line bus project will be fully operational from January 10.

According to Sindh Infrastructure Development Company, the bus service will run on a limited scale for four hours on a trial basis, while the number of functional stations has also been halved. The measure has been taken to assess the capacity of the project infrastructure and systems.
