The first protection center for Transgenders in Pakistan has opened in Islamabad. Located at the H-9/4 sector, it was inaugurated Dr. Shireen Mazari, Human Rights Minister of Pakistan.
The center will provide legal aid, health facilities, temporary shelter, and psychological counseling for transgenders. Furthermore, during the inauguration ceremony, she said that other cities will get similar centers as well. This will in short ensure the rights of the transgender community.
Moreover, she said, “emphasising that members of the community should be provided the same employment and health facilities as other citizens of the country”.
Informing the members of the event Dr. Shireen Mazari, explained the ministry has taken “various initiatives for effective implementation of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018”. Furthermore, under the Transgender Protection Act Section-6(a), a protection center at the cost of 35.8M Rs is established.
Similarly, Syed Yawar Abbas Bukhari, the provincial minister of Baitul Maal and Social Welfare announced the Transgender Rehabilitation Centre to be established in Lahore.
