Just a few days after Facebook and Ray-Ban debuted their somewhat basic smart glasses, Xiaomi unveiled its own smart glasses, which are far more intriguing.

The Xiaomi Smart Glasses – as the name suggests – look like regular sunglasses and weigh a reasonable 51 grams, but they include a MicroLED display built into the right lens, a 5-megapixel camera on the front, a quad-core ARM processor, a battery, a touchpad on the frame, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The glasses run on Android, however, Xiaomi did not specify which version.

The most intriguing aspect is most likely the display. MicroLED displays are comparable to OLED displays but have a greater pixel density, a longer lifespan, and a simpler structure, which Xiaomi claims allow for easier integration into the glasses. The display isn’t particularly sophisticated, as it must allow light to flow through in order for you to see through the glasses – it’s a monochromatic display that may show you things like a clock, messages, and navigation directions.

Although the display is monochromatic, it may be utilized for calls, messages, navigation, and other tasks. Although the display is monochromatic, it may be utilized for calls, messages, navigation, and other tasks.

It would also be fascinating to see how Xiaomi positions this gadget. According to the firm, the Smart Glasses are a gadget in their own right, not merely an attachment for your smartphone. You may use them to make and receive calls, take photographs, read texts, obtain translations, and do other things without needing to use your smartphone at all. To do all of this, the glasses have some Xiaomi AI smarts.

Xiaomi’s Smart Glasses will undoubtedly be compared to Google Glass, which also had a built-in display but was eventually abandoned as a mass-market product, with Google instead turning it into a professional tool. We’ll see if Xiaomi’s version avoids that fate, but for the time being, Xiaomi is promoting its Smart Glasses as a product that anybody can use.

There’s no news on pricing or availability; we’ve contacted Xiaomi and will update this post as soon as we learn more.
