Muhammad Ammar Abid of Pakistan became the first person from his nation to participate in Microsoft’s RLOS 2021 (Reinforcement Learning Open Source 2021) Fest, which runs from April 2021 to August 2021.

He was one of ten people chosen from around the world to participate in Microsoft Research’s RLOS Summer Program. Ammar will receive a stipend of $10,000 USD in addition to a four-month mentoring from one of Microsoft’s top software developers.

The RLOS Fest is a global online program that teaches students about open source reinforcement learning and software development. Students are chosen for the program work with the Real World Reinforcement Learning team at Microsoft Research NYC, which consists of researchers, engineers, and data scientists.

The program’s objective is to bring together various groups of students from around the world to tackle open source reinforcement learning issues and progress cutting-edge research.

Abid’s summer project was to incorporate the Tensorboard and Tensorwatch Visualization tools with Microsoft Research’s open-source machine learning platform vowpal Wabbit. Vowpal Wabbit (VW) is a quick, flexible, online, and active learning system that enables individuals to tackle difficult interactive machine learning issues, with a strong emphasis on contextual bandits and reinforcement learning.

It serves as a platform for both research prototypes and bringing cutting-edge algorithms into production. The Vowpal Wabbit ecosystem’s open-source projects are the focus of the RL OS Fest.
