Agriculture Sector: Pak-China agree to increase cooperation

PARC, Agricultural Research Institute of Beijing to take lead in research-based exchange of technology to enhance agriculture sector of Pakistan.

Pak-China agreed to increase coorperation in agriculture sector. Specifically fertiliser, machinery, pesticides and support services. Support services like agricultural research and education.

Pak-China also agreed to increase cooperation in agricultural infrastructure in the regions along the CPEC. Including livestock breeding, crop farming forestry, aquatic and fishery in the regions along the CPEC.

Pak-China will work on construction of farmland water conservancy facility, development of comprehensive agricultural production capacity and agricultural products circulation facility. SImilarly, Both will work to increase forestry, fisheries, horticulture, livestock vaccines and medicines, horticultural products.

The contract was done in a meeting held between Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam and Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan Nong Rong.

Press Conference on Pak-China Trade

In their press conference, Pakistan Minister said that there is huge potential for Pak-Chine trading. He also said that Pakistan has huge potential in terms of vegetables and fruits export. As mango, citrus fruits, apple and cherries production in Paksitan is huge. Moreover, he added that agriculture trade between Pak-Chine will reach new heights if Pakistan increases fruits, vegetables and rice exports to China.

Pak-China agreed to sign two MoUs to increase onion export to China and to introduce revolutionary Chinese Juncao technology. The Chinese ambassador said that Juncao technology allows farmers to grow different types of nutritional mushrooms from chopped grasses without cutting down trees and damaging the environment. He said Juncao technology will also help in producing feed, biogas and also minimise soil erosion to combat desertification. He said farmers can generate income in 7-10 days after planting mushroom substrate packs.

Chinese ambassador said that one hectare of land produces 300 tons of fresh grass per year. This grass can grow 120 tons of fresh mushrooms or feed 300 goats. Also in the winter season, it can solve the forage shortage. He said that 13 centres of this technology have been set up globally and the next will be set up in Pakistan. Chinese ambassador said that Government to Government, Business to Business and Research to Research exchanges are important.
