The Sindh government has approved a substantial budget exceeding Rs21 billion to enhance roads and infrastructure in Karachi. This decision was made under the leadership of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, aiming to improve urban mobility and public safety.
Key Meeting and Approvals
A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shah brought together senior officials including the Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, and the Chairman of Planning & Development Najam Shah. The focus was on comprehensive rehabilitation and infrastructure upgrades across the city.
Financial Allocation and Project Scope
- A total of Rs21.53 billion was sanctioned for Karachi’s infrastructure improvements.
- A special grant of Rs13 billion was approved specifically for road rehabilitation.
- Mayor Murtaza Wahab highlighted 409 deteriorated roads needing repair.
- Financial support was also allocated to 24 Town Municipal Corporations.
Road Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Plans
Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah outlined plans to patchwork 400 roads across Karachi’s seven districts, with complete reconstruction scheduled for nine roads. The combined cost for road, sewerage, and water supply projects is estimated at Rs12.57 billion.
Directives and Implementation
- The Chief Minister instructed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to rehabilitate 26 major roads.
- Additional projects valued at Rs8.53 billion covering roads, drainage, and street lighting were also approved.
- Emphasis was placed on transparency, quality, and timely completion of all projects.
- The Finance Department was ordered to release funds immediately to facilitate swift progress.
These initiatives are expected to improve traffic flow, stimulate economic activity, and prioritize public convenience and safety across Karachi.
