ISLAMABAD (APP) – Pakistan and China have expanded their technological collaboration through the signing of 24 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen digital cooperation under the Joint Working Group on IT Cooperation. According to a document obtained by Wealth Pakistan, the agreements signed in Beijing include one government-to-government, seven government-to-business, and 16 business-to-business partnerships.
The initiative focuses on establishing a pragmatic digital corridor to open new avenues for Pakistani technology companies while enhancing ICT infrastructure, cybersecurity, human resource development, connectivity, emerging technologies, and digital skills.
Key Initiatives:
- Huawei Partnership: Pakistan aims to train up to 300,000 youths in advanced digital skills, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. This initiative leverages Huawei’s global expertise and collaborations with local academic institutions to reduce the digital skills gap and create employment opportunities.
- Google Collaboration: Training programs in artificial intelligence target government officials and cover school, university, and vocational levels. This national AI effort seeks to enhance public sector efficiency and integrate AI into key areas like healthcare, judiciary, and governance.
- Asian Development Bank (ADB) via Ignite: Practical AI applications will be developed for EdTech, HealthTech, AgriTech, FinTech, ClimateTech, and GovTech, turning national AI policy into actionable solutions and fostering a local innovation ecosystem.
- ZTE Program: A nationwide ICT skills training program aims to benefit up to 100,000 trainees, with ZTE planning to establish its eighth global training center in Pakistan, strengthening human resources and reinforcing the country as a technology hub.
- World Bank Support: Under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project, initiatives focus on digital public infrastructure development, improved access to government services, and modernization of governance processes.
The document underscores Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships for technology development, AI adoption, and IT export expansion, positioning the country as a competitive digital economy in the region.
This collaboration marks a significant step in Pakistan-China technological relations, reinforcing the strategic importance of digital transformation and AI integration in Pakistan’s public and private sectors.
