Liverpool F.C. delivered a significant performance at home as they edged Real Madrid 1-0 in the Champions League, with manager Arne Slot praising both his squad’s spirit and the Anfield atmosphere. The only goal came in the second half when Alexis Mac Allister headed in a decisive strike, handing Real Madrid their first defeat of the season in Europe’s elite competition.
Slot said the win was “impressive because we played against an incredible side” and highlighted the importance of playing in front of Liverpool’s passionate home crowd, which he believed brought out the best in his players. He also acknowledged that the team had endured a tough stretch—with many consecutive away games and limited rest—but that tonight’s result and energy marked a turning point.
Defensively, Slot singled out his team for a disciplined display, especially in keeping top-tier attackers such as Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior quiet throughout. He also praised 22-year-old right-back Conor Bradley for his standout performance against Vinícius in one-on-one situations, calling it “outstanding.”
The victory also signalled a bounce back for Liverpool, who had been struggling in the Premier League with several losses before this result. Slot admitted there were no excuses for the poor run of form but stressed that this win could restore momentum.
