The country’s major provinces, the federal capital territory, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan have made nazrah Quran necessary in their syllabus for the next academic year, commencing from August 2021.
The compulsory teaching of the Holy Quran has also been announced in federal government educational institutions and in the KP and Bahawalpur Divisions of Punjab, and will now be part of the Single National Curriculum, the primary step of which will start in the next academic conference.
The SNC has also been adopted by schools functioned by the Pakistan Army, Airforce, and Navy. The teaching of the Holy Quran is now mandatory in all Pakistan Navy-run schools, thanks to the efforts of ex naval chief Zafar Mehmood Abbasi.
Legislation was executed at the federal and provincial levels during the former PMLN administration, with Balighur Rehman, the then state minister for education in Nawaz Sharif’s cabinet, playing a key role.
On the other hand, the KP government of Pervez Khattak was the first to make the Holy Quran compulsory in schools.
