MANILA — Pakistan and Russia have reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across trade, energy, connectivity, and regional security, while agreeing to enhance diplomatic coordination at multilateral forums.
The reaffirmation came during a high-level bilateral meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Manila, held on the sidelines of the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting.
High-Level Engagement in Manila
During the delegation-level discussions, both ministers reviewed the broader trajectory of Pakistan–Russia relations, underscoring the necessity of sustained high-level contact to advance the expanding partnership.
Broad Areas of Engagement: The talks centered on expanding economic ties, advancing Eurasian transport corridors, securing reliable energy supply frameworks, and deepening institutional collaboration.
Multilateral Coordination: Both nations agreed to maintain close alignment and mutual support across major international and regional platforms, including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Regional Dynamics: Dar and Lavrov exchanged views on key international developments, reiterating their mutual desire to foster peace, economic stability, and multilateral cooperation in Eurasia.
Expanding Trade and Energy Links
The meeting builds upon steady progress toward formalizing a comprehensive Economic Cooperation Programme extending through 2030, which aims to transition bilateral ties from traditional diplomacy toward long-term geoeconomic integration.
Diplomatic Stance: Both sides highlighted the strategic value of enhancing direct business-to-business (B2B) linkages, establishing efficient regional banking channels, and developing robust overland and maritime transit networks to boost two-way trade volume.
As Pakistan continues to diversify its international energy partnerships and trade corridors, the dialogue in Manila signals a continued momentum in building a durable, multidimensional partnership between Islamabad and Moscow.
