Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, strategic cooperation, and political mutual trust during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s four-day official visit to China, held as part of celebrations marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz met Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, where both sides discussed expanding cooperation under the China-Pakistan All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership and exchanged views on regional and international matters.
A joint statement issued after the visit highlighted that Pakistan and China agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, economy, defense, security, technology, agriculture, artificial intelligence, education, and infrastructure development.
Both countries reiterated their support for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and agreed to accelerate work on major projects including the Karakoram Highway realignment and the development of Gwadar Port as a regional connectivity hub.
China also agreed to support Pakistan in agriculture, digital economy, mining, energy, and industrial cooperation, while both sides emphasized enhancing people-to-people exchanges and educational collaboration.
Pakistan reaffirmed its support for the One-China policy and backed China on issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and the South China Sea. In return, China reiterated support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and economic development.
The two countries also agreed to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation and ensure the protection of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan.
During the visit, China welcomed two Pakistani astronauts for training and expressed hope that a Pakistani astronaut would become the first foreign national to visit the Chinese Space Station.
Both sides signed multiple cooperation agreements across various sectors and pledged to continue close coordination on regional peace, multilateral cooperation, and global development initiatives.
