Google is enhancing its Search experience by introducing Personal Intelligence in AI Mode, designed to deliver search results uniquely tailored to individual users. This new feature connects your Gmail and Google Photos data securely to provide personalized recommendations and insights.
What is Personal Intelligence?
Personal Intelligence allows AI Pro and Ultra subscribers to opt-in and link their Gmail and Google Photos accounts to AI Mode in Search. By leveraging personal context from these apps, the AI can offer more relevant and customized responses that fit seamlessly into users’ lives.
Examples of Personalized Search Assistance
- Planning a family trip? AI Mode can suggest activities and dining options based on your hotel bookings and travel photos, creating a personalized itinerary.
- Shopping for clothing? The AI considers your past purchases and travel plans to recommend items that suit your destination’s weather and your style preferences.
- Engaging with fun queries? You can ask creative questions like what movie title would best describe your life or what your perfect day looks like.
User Control and Privacy
Connecting Gmail and Google Photos is strictly optional and controlled by the user. You can enable or disable connections anytime through your settings. Google emphasizes privacy by using its advanced Gemini 3 AI model, which does not train directly on your inbox or photo library. Instead, it uses limited information from specific prompts and responses to improve the experience.
Handling Mistakes and Feedback
While Personal Intelligence aims to be helpful, it may occasionally misinterpret context or make incorrect connections. Users can clarify or correct responses with follow-up inputs and provide feedback by rating suggestions. This helps refine the AI’s performance over time.
Availability and Activation
This feature is rolling out as a Labs experiment to eligible Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers with personal accounts in the U.S. Users will receive an invitation to try Personal Intelligence in AI Mode or can activate it manually via Search settings by connecting their Gmail and Google Photos.
Google looks forward to seeing how users personalize their Search experience with this new capability.
