WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a significant update that will enable voice and video calls directly from its web application. This long-awaited feature will allow users to participate in calls without needing to install a dedicated desktop app.

Voice and Video Calling on WhatsApp Web

According to reports from a reliable WhatsApp monitoring source, the feature is under active development but has not yet been officially released. Once available, users will be able to make voice and video calls using WhatsApp Web, providing greater flexibility especially when using a shared or public computer.

Key Features and Functionality

  • Calls can be made and received without installing a native or hybrid desktop application.
  • Users will have control over call notifications on WhatsApp Web.
  • Voice and video calls will be supported for both individual and group chats.
  • Group calls may initially support a limited number of participants, potentially up to 32 in the future.
  • Users will be able to generate shareable call links to invite others, choosing between voice or video calls.
  • Scheduling calls for both individual and group conversations will also be possible.

Cross-Device Compatibility

This update will align WhatsApp Web’s calling capabilities with those already available on Android and iOS apps, allowing seamless participation across devices. Similar to other services, users will be able to join calls from their phones or desktops, enhancing convenience and accessibility.

Release Timeline

While no official release date has been announced, the feature is expected to launch within the coming weeks. The addition of voice and video calls on WhatsApp Web addresses a widely requested functionality and will expand the platform’s communication options.
