KARACHI: Romania’s Ambassador Dan Stoenescu met Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, education, energy, and cultural exchange.

According to the Sindh government, Stoenescu emphasized Romania’s interest in strengthening ties with Sindh in industrial manufacturing, textiles, food processing, information technology, and renewable energy sectors. He proposed setting up a Romania–Sindh Economic Dialogue Platform to link Romanian investors and business chambers across Sindh, while encouraging Romanian participation in the province’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Both sides discussed collaboration in wind and solar energy projects within the Jhimpir Corridor, along with initiatives in agriculture and agro-industry. The ambassador highlighted plans to advance cooperation through upcoming MoUs between Constanța Port and Karachi Port, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

Education was also a focal point, with discussions on establishing a Romanian university campus in Karachi to offer degree programs and scholarships for Pakistani students. Stoenescu reaffirmed Romania’s willingness to share its EU-aligned expertise in governance, urban planning, and digital administration.

The ambassador added that Romania will participate in the World Culture Festival taking place from October 30 to December 7 in Karachi, reflecting growing cultural engagement between the two sides.

Talks also covered water management, climate resilience, and sustainable urban development, with Romania offering insights from its management of the Danube River Basin. The two sides further explored potential EU-funded initiatives focused on disaster response, women’s rights, and public health.

Ambassador Stoenescu announced that a Romanian business delegation would visit Sindh next year to pursue the initiatives discussed during the meeting, marking a new step in Pakistan–Romania economic and cultural relations.
