KARACHI: Meta has officially launched Meta AI in Urdu for users in Pakistan, marking a major step toward inclusive digital innovation. The announcement came during the event “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation”, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT).

At the event, Meta unveiled multiple initiatives aimed at accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation. These include the introduction of Urdu language support in Meta AI, the launch of an AI Literacy Program, and the announcement of the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025.

As part of the AI Literacy Program, Meta will train 350 non-computer science university teachers in basic AI skills in partnership with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp. The goal is to empower educators to prepare students for the demands of the digital economy.

Meta also released a localized guide, “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama”, developed with Deloitte, explaining how Meta’s open-source AI model can enhance government operations, public services, and data sovereignty.

Additionally, the GDTX 2025 initiative will connect experts from both public and private sectors to share strategies for effective digital transformation in government institutions using Meta’s tools and technologies.

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja hailed the collaboration as a milestone under the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision, emphasizing that technology must empower every citizen. She highlighted that the introduction of Urdu in Meta AI makes technology more inclusive and accessible to all.

Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, Sarim Aziz, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s public and educational sectors in leveraging AI for national development.
