The federal government is finalizing a three-year relief package to significantly reduce electricity tariffs for agricultural and industrial consumers, sources confirmed on Wednesday. The plan aims to lower the per-unit cost from the current Rs38 (agriculture) and Rs34 (industry) to around Rs23.50, with further incentives for additional power usage.
According to officials, the package—soon to be presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif—seeks to promote higher electricity consumption while easing financial pressure on key economic sectors. By lowering energy costs, the government hopes to boost production, enhance competitiveness, and accelerate economic growth.
The Power Division has structured the initiative to provide long-term stability, making it part of a broader “mission to encourage consumers to use additional electricity.” This move also supports the government’s goal of sustainable industrial and agricultural expansion, crucial for job creation and export growth.
