Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review relief and rehabilitation operations for victims of recent rains and floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The premier announced that members of the federal cabinet will donate one month’s salary to support families affected by the disaster.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz underlined that service must take precedence over politics in this hour of crisis. He assured that compensation will be provided to the families of the deceased and other victims under the Prime Minister’s Relief Package.
The prime minister directed federal ministers to personally supervise the distribution of relief goods and rehabilitation efforts in flood-hit areas to ensure transparency and quick assistance.
NDMA Action Plan
The premier instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to finalize and submit an assessment of damages along with a detailed action plan for aid distribution. He further ordered the Ministry of Finance to release the necessary funds without delay, while the Ministry of Health has been tasked to dispatch medical teams and essential medicines to the affected districts.
Rescue and Damages Update
According to an official briefing, more than 400 rescue operations have been carried out so far, and 46 relief camps have been set up to shelter displaced families. Property losses are estimated to exceed Rs125 million.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed the government’s commitment, stating that federal ministers will remain present in the field until every victim has been assisted and the restoration of essential infrastructure is complete.
