Islamabad, August 7, 2025 – In a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s maritime and industrial infrastructure, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs has signed a pivotal investment agreement with Chinese firm Xinning Enterprise. The collaboration aims to upgrade Gwadar Port and initiate new industrial projects within the Gwadar Free Zone, significantly boosting Pakistan’s blue economy and enhancing its regional trade stature.
Letter of Intent Signed to Boost Gwadar’s Reach
The agreement, formalized via a Letter of Intent (LOI), outlines a joint strategy to expand Gwadar’s port infrastructure, establish new industrial units, and significantly improve the port’s trade and logistical capabilities. These developments align with Gwadar’s strategic role in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Pakistan’s vision to transform the port into a regional transshipment and logistics hub.
Gwadar: A Gateway to Global Trade
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, described the agreement as a “milestone” in Pakistan’s port development strategy.
“We are committed to making Gwadar a global maritime gateway,” said Chaudhry. “This partnership will not only elevate Gwadar’s commercial handling capacity but also generate valuable employment and investment opportunities.”
New Industries in Gwadar Free Zone
The deal includes plans to launch industrial projects in the Gwadar Free Zone — focusing on manufacturing, processing, and exports. This is expected to stimulate economic activity, foster local industry, and transform Gwadar into a self-sustaining economic zone.
Officials highlight that Gwadar’s enhanced capabilities will not only strengthen Pakistan’s connectivity to global markets but also integrate it more deeply into regional trade networks.
