The Pakistan Met Office Forecasts a March 30 Eid-ul-Fitr Moon Sighting

The Shawwal moon is predicted to be visible on the evening of March 30, 2025 which is when Eid-ul-Fitr will arrive the following day, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). According to astronomical calculations this forecast suggests that March 31, 2025, will probably be the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The prediction’s scientific foundation

Astronomical data indicates that the new moon will be visible on the evening of March 30 due to its birth around 15:58 PST on March 29. This prediction has also been endorsed by the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) which confirms that Monday, March 31, 2025 will be the day of Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan.

Meteorologists have warned, nevertheless, that weather can have an impact on moon sightings. In certain areas, partially cloudy sky may make it difficult to see, thus religious groups had to rely on both telescope-assisted and unaided views.

The Function of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in the Formal Declaration

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final decision, but scientific forecasts give a good idea of when Eid-ul-Fitr is expected. Together with zonal and district moon sighting committees, this committee will meet on March 30, 2025 to evaluate sightings from all throughout the nation.

Verified reports of moon sightings from several locations will be necessary for the ultimate confirmation. Eid will be celebrated the following day if reliable reports verify that the Shawwal moon can be seen.

Holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr Announced

The federal government has formally announced public holidays from March 31 to April 2, 2025 in advance of Eid-ul-Fitr enabling citizens to commemorate the festival. These dates were verified by a Cabinet Secretariat statement, which matched the anticipated Eid-ul-Fitr announcement.

The country is anxiously awaiting the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s formal decision as the day draws near, and meteorologists are still keeping an eye on the weather to ensure a clear view of the moon.
