Islamabad: Newly-appointed Minister of Railways Hanif Abbasi has unveiled a series of initiatives to facilitate passengers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr 2025, including the launch of special trains and a fare reduction.

Addressing a press conference, Abbasi directed Pakistan Railways officials to prioritize passenger safety and ensure the installation of surveillance devices to prevent accidents and improve security across railway operations.

The minister emphasized his commitment to enhancing railway revenues while reducing operational costs. He highlighted that special Eid trains would commence operations from the 25th of Ramazan, ensuring increased capacity for travelers heading to their hometowns for the festivities.

Additionally, he announced a reduction in train fares, making travel more affordable during the holiday season.

Abbasi also provided updates on railway infrastructure projects, mentioning ongoing discussions with multiple countries regarding the ML-1 (Main Line-1) project, a key initiative aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s railway system.

Potential Six-Day Eid Holidays in Pakistan

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Pakistanis may enjoy six Eid-ul-Fitr holidays this year. According to the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, Ramazan is likely to last 29 days, with Eid expected on March 31.

If Ramazan spans 29 days, Eid holidays will be observed from March 31 to April 2 (Monday to Wednesday). However, if it extends to 30 days, Eid will fall from April 1 to April 3 (Tuesday to Thursday). With Saturday and Sunday already being a weekend, this could mean a six-day break for many government employees.

These initiatives by Pakistan Railways, coupled with the extended holidays, are set to make Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 a more convenient and enjoyable experience for travelers across the country.
