Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken serious notice of gas shortages affecting households during Sehar and Iftar in the holy month of Ramadan. Responding to widespread public complaints, the premier convened an emergency meeting late Monday night to address the crisis and ensure uninterrupted gas supply to consumers.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), where discussions focused on mitigating low gas pressure, particularly in areas located at the tail end of supply lines.

Key Directives and Immediate Actions

Following the Prime Minister’s directives:

  1. Increase in Gas Pressure:
    • SSGC announced an immediate 10% increase in gas pressure to improve supply.
  2. Preemptive Gas Distribution:
    • In areas facing low gas pressure, supply will commence 30 to 45 minutes earlier than usual before Sehar and Iftar to stabilize pressure levels.
  3. Control Rooms for Monitoring:
    • SSGC has established control rooms at its head office and regional centers to monitor gas supply and address consumer complaints on an urgent basis.
    • A daily report on gas supply and complaints will be submitted for review.
  4. SNGPL’s Assurance:
    • SNGPL has also assured consumers that they will take immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted gas supply during Sehar and Iftar in line with the Prime Minister’s orders.

Consumer Support and Complaint Resolution

Consumers experiencing gas shortages or low pressure have been advised to report their concerns by contacting the official helpline at 1199. Complaints will be prioritized and addressed promptly to minimize inconvenience during the holy month.

An SSGC spokesperson emphasized that ensuring stable gas supply is a top priority, and the company is working around the clock to prevent further disruptions.
