Chicken prices have witnessed a significant decrease across major cities in Pakistan, including Lahore and Multan, as the country experiences a reduction in its inflation rate.

The price of chicken meat has dropped by Rs. 29 per kilogram, with the government setting the new rate at Rs. 403 per kg, down from Rs. 432 the previous day. Similarly, live chicken prices have fallen by Rs. 20, bringing the wholesale rate to Rs. 264 per kg and the retail rate to Rs. 278 per kg.

In Multan, reports indicate that the wholesale price for live chicken is also Rs. 264 per kg, while the retail rate is Rs. 278 per kg. Chicken meat in the city is being sold at Rs. 400 per kg, matching prices in Islamabad recorded a day earlier.

Egg Prices Remain Steady
Meanwhile, the price of eggs has remained stable in Lahore and other parts of Punjab, with the government maintaining the rate at Rs. 324 per dozen.

Inflation Trends in Pakistan
According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), headline inflation dropped to 4.9% year-on-year in November 2024, consistent with the expectations of the Monetary Policy Committee. The decline was driven by a reduction in food inflation and the waning effects of a gas tariff hike implemented in November 2023.

However, core inflation remains elevated at 9.7%, with fluctuating inflation expectations among consumers and businesses. The SBP continues to monitor these trends to ensure price stability.

This price drop provides some relief to consumers as the country navigates its path toward economic stabilization.
