Former Pakistan Test cricketer Mohammad Ramzan has been reappointed as the head coach of China’s national cricket team. This marks his second term with the team, as the Chinese government once again places its trust in his expertise to guide their national squad.

The one-year agreement, finalized between Mohammad Ramzan and the Chinese government, reflects the growing cricketing ties between Pakistan and China, with Ramzan accepting the role in the spirit of friendship between the two nations.

Ramzan previously coached China’s cricket team in 2023, earning recognition for his efforts to nurture and develop the sport in the country. His appointment is seen as a continuation of his dedication to cricket’s growth on the global stage.

Born on May 24, 1966, in Lahore, Pakistan, Ramzan was a left-arm orthodox spinner who represented Pakistan in Test cricket during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He made his Test debut in 1988 against the West Indies and played a total of four Test matches for Pakistan, taking 10 wickets at an average of around 40. While his international career was brief, Ramzan’s role as a bowler was to contain runs and break partnerships.

After retiring from international cricket, Ramzan enjoyed a long and successful domestic cricket career, making a significant impact in Pakistan’s first-class and List-A competitions. He has continued to contribute to the sport as a coach and mentor, particularly working with younger players and spin bowlers.

Despite his short-lived international career, Ramzan’s contributions to Pakistan’s cricketing legacy, especially in the domestic scene, have solidified his place in the country’s cricketing history. His reappointment as China’s national coach further underscores his ongoing influence in the global cricketing community.
