In November 2024, the prices of cooking oil and ghee surged in Pakistan’s open market, despite a recent dip in the inflation rate.
Reports show a notable rise, with first-grade ghee and oil increasing by Rs. 54 per kilogram and second- and third-grade varieties seeing a jump of Rs. 60 per kilogram. The retail price for first-grade oil and ghee has climbed from Rs. 505 to Rs. 559, while second-grade ghee, previously priced at Rs. 440, now sells for Rs. 500. Prices for ghee across various areas now range between Rs. 525 and Rs. 530.
Second-grade oil has also seen a sharp increase, rising from Rs. 452 per liter to Rs. 512, with some retailers pricing it between Rs. 530 and Rs. 540.
In a separate update, sugar prices have decreased, bringing some relief to consumers. The Utility Stores Corporation recently reduced the price of sugar by Rs. 13 per kilogram, making the new price Rs. 140 per kilogram nationwide, down from Rs. 153. This adjustment aims to provide affordable essentials amid fluctuating food costs in Pakistan.
