Pakistan and Bangladesh Commit to Strengthening Strategic Ties at Samoa Meeting

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Bangladesh took a significant step toward closer diplomatic and economic ties on Friday as Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, met with Bangladesh’s Adviser for Foreign Affairs, Md. Touhid Hossain, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa. This high-level discussion focused on enhancing cooperation in areas including trade, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connections.

Historically, Pakistan-Bangladesh relations have been marked by complexities since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971. Under the recent administration in Bangladesh, however, both nations have expressed a shared commitment to reinvigorating diplomatic relations and exploring mutually beneficial partnerships.

A statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office noted that both leaders agreed on the importance of advancing high-level dialogue and fostering collaboration at multilateral forums.

This meeting follows a recent engagement between Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s top interim official, Muhammad Yunus, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September, signaling a sustained effort to bridge past differences and build a cooperative future.
