Over 50 athletes competed in a thrilling sprint showdown at Punjab Stadium, Lahore, organized by the Pakistan Athletics Federation in collaboration with a local college, to determine the fastest male and female sprinters in the country.

Shajar Abbas once again showcased his incredible speed, setting a new national record in the men’s 100-meter sprint with a remarkable time of 10.34 seconds. Close behind, Pakistan Army’s Naveed secured second place.

In the women’s category, Tameem Khan, representing the Pakistan Army, claimed victory in the 100-meter sprint, clocking in at 11.80 seconds, making her Pakistan’s fastest female athlete. Olympic representative Faiqa Riaz took second place with a time of 12.50 seconds, while Safinaaz of the Pakistan Navy finished third.

In other recent sports achievements, Muhammad Asim Khan, Pakistan’s top squash player, claimed his first-ever World Tour title at the Charlottesville Open Squash Championship 2024, held in Virginia, USA. Asim overcame top-seeded English player Nick Wall in a gripping 65-minute final. Despite losing the first game 12-14, he made an impressive comeback, winning the next three games 12-10, 11-5, and 11-6, securing a 3-1 victory. This victory, along with 500 ranking points, is expected to significantly elevate his global squash ranking.
