Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, PakSat-MM1, has officially begun operations after successful testing. This milestone satellite is the first in the country to offer broadband services, marking a significant leap in Pakistan’s space capabilities.

Shaza Fatima, Minister of State for Information Technology, announced the launch of Pakistan’s National Space Policy, underscoring the critical role of PakSat-MM1. The satellite aims to improve connectivity in remote and underserved areas, addressing the challenge of internet access where traditional infrastructure is lacking. Fatima emphasized that this advancement could revolutionize digital education and healthcare in Pakistan.

SUPARCO Chairman Yusuf Khan and PakSat CEO Khalid Rashid praised PakSat-MM1’s capabilities. They highlighted that the satellite will offer broadband, telecommunications, and data internet services, enhancing digital connectivity and internet speeds, especially in remote regions. PakSat-MM1 will also provide 5G coverage, addressing the complexities of telecom infrastructure development in underserved areas.

Khan and Rashid noted the global importance of satellite internet and its potential to integrate remote areas into the digital economy, projecting a potential GDP boost of up to 2.5% for Pakistan. PakSat-MM1 represents a major advancement in bridging connectivity gaps and supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation.
