SAN FRANCISCO: Apple is set to unveil its latest iPhones on Monday, with a strong focus on generative AI capabilities, aiming to boost sales after a prolonged slump. The launch event, titled “Glowtime,” will take place at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters, where the tech giant traditionally reveals its annual iPhone lineup updates.
The iPhone 16, expected to debut, carries high stakes for Apple. With iPhones contributing around 60% of its $39 billion in quarterly revenue, the company hopes AI-powered features will encourage users to upgrade from older models.
Forrester analyst Dipanjan Chatterjee called the iPhone 16 launch “significant” due to the introduction of “Apple Intelligence,” a suite of AI software announced in June. This new feature set will enhance image editing, translation, and messaging, with more ambitious AI updates expected in the future.
Among the upgrades, Apple’s digital assistant Siri will be revamped with AI enhancements, making it more integrated across apps. This “super-powered Siri” aims to redefine the iPhone experience over time.
Apple’s announcement follows Google’s recent launch of AI-powered Pixel 9 smartphones and Samsung’s increasing focus on AI in its devices, intensifying competition in the global smartphone market.
