ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, expressed his appreciation to the United Arab Emirates for agreeing to resume the Pak-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) meeting after a gap of over 10 years. The meeting is scheduled for October 1, 2024.

During a phone call with UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Dar discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including trade and investment. The conversation also touched on matters related to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Dar, currently in the United Kingdom on a five-day visit, acknowledged the importance of reviving the JMC, highlighting its potential to strengthen business-to-business ties between the two nations. Both countries are expected to hold a joint business council meeting on the sidelines of the JMC to promote deeper economic collaboration.

The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, following China and the United States. Its geographical proximity reduces transportation costs, making it an ideal trade destination for Pakistan. Additionally, the UAE is home to over a million Pakistani expatriates and is the second-largest source of remittances to Pakistan, after Saudi Arabia.

This renewed focus on economic and financial cooperation is expected to further boost bilateral relations and create new opportunities for both nations.
