The Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) has announced the launch of an International Volleyball League, which will kick off on December 15. The league will feature six teams, each representing different cities across Pakistan.
In a bid to raise the competitive level and international exposure, each team will be permitted to include two international players. The league will follow a double-league format and is expected to span approximately three weeks, offering intense competition for both players and spectators.
PVF Chairman, Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, expressed his excitement about the league, emphasizing its potential to promote volleyball at the grassroots level and provide economic benefits to players. Yaqoob, a former Inspector General of Police, highlighted the league’s role in discovering hidden talent and providing world-class facilities for players to excel on the international stage.
“This initiative will open new opportunities for local players, allowing them to showcase their skills while improving their economic conditions,” said Yaqoob. He also commended the recent achievements of Pakistan’s junior volleyball team, which qualified for the Under-18 Volleyball World Cup, attributing their success to the dedication of coach Saeed Ahmed.
Pakistan’s volleyball teams, both senior and junior, have made notable progress, with the junior team securing a spot among the top five in Asia. Yaqoob reiterated the federation’s commitment to developing volleyball talent in Pakistan and expressed confidence that the International Volleyball League would play a crucial role in furthering the sport’s growth.
The league is expected to become an annual event, providing a consistent platform for players to improve and gain international recognition.
