Pakistan Explores Collaboration with Saudi-Based International Dates Council

Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia has announced a strategic meeting between Ambassador Ahmad Farooq and the CEO of the International Dates Council (IDC), Dr. Abdulrahman Suliman Alhabib. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation in palm cultivation, date processing, and marketing to boost industrial growth in Pakistan’s date industry.

While Pakistan imports a significant variety of dates from the Middle East to meet the high demand, particularly during Ramadan, it also produces substantial quantities domestically. The regions of Khairpur in Sindh, and Turbat and Panjgur in Balochistan are key date-producing areas, with the government now aiming to leverage this production for increased export revenue.

“Ambassador @AmbFarooq met with Dr. Abdulrahman Suliman Alhabib, CEO of @intdcorg,” the Pakistani embassy in Riyadh tweeted, emphasizing the focus on collaboration to bolster the date industry.

The International Dates Council, based in Saudi Arabia, is dedicated to promoting the global development of the date palm industry by partnering with governments and private sector entities.

In a further effort to enhance date exports, Pakistan is set to host an international date festival in collaboration with the UAE Embassy in Islamabad this October. The event is expected to strengthen the export potential of Pakistani dates, contributing significantly to the national economy.
