PM Shehbaz Sharif Congratulates Bangladesh’s Dr. Younis, Offers Support amid Flood Crisis

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to Professor Dr. Muhammad Younis, the newly appointed Chief Advisor to Bangladesh’s interim government, during their first telephone conversation. The call marks the beginning of official communications between the two leaders.

In addition to his congratulations, Prime Minister Sharif expressed deep condolences for the devastation caused by the recent floods in Bangladesh. He conveyed his sorrow and solidarity with the Bangladeshi people during this challenging time.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sharif also sent a letter to Dr. Younis, expressing his grief over the catastrophic flood situation in Bangladesh. In his letter, he assured Dr. Younis that Pakistan stands ready to assist Bangladesh in any way possible to help mitigate the impact of the disaster.

“The sympathies of the entire Pakistani nation and government are with the people of Bangladesh,” Prime Minister Sharif wrote. He praised the resilience and courage of the Bangladeshi people and expressed confidence that, under the leadership of Dr. Younis, Bangladesh will overcome the current crisis.

This outreach comes after significant political turmoil in Bangladesh. On August 5, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country amidst escalating violence. In a press conference, Bangladesh Army Chief Wakar uz Zaman announced that the Army would assume responsibility for the country’s governance and work with political parties to form an interim government.

“The country is in crisis,” said General Zaman. “We have decided to form an interim government to ensure stability and protect the lives and property of our citizens. We call on all parties to support this process and end the violence.”

As Bangladesh navigates these difficult times, the support from neighboring Pakistan underscores the importance of regional solidarity in the face of natural and political challenges.
