For the past month, the ministry of home affairs had been negotiating with Sri-Lankan authorities to bring prisoners back. The High Commissioner of Sri-Lanka Admiral (Retd) Ravindra Chandra Srivijay remained co operative throughout. On Friday, it was finally confirmed by the Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi that these prisoners will return home. Mohsin Naqvi expressed gratitude to the High Comissioner in return and laid emphasis on the need to strengthen relations further. Additionally, it was agreed that not just these prisoners but in fact prisoners of both countries will return to their countries. Mohsin Naqvi stated that the finalisation of arrangements for the return of Pakistani prisoners will occur within a few days.

Over the past few decades, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have cultivated a mutually beneficial relationship. Correspondingly, the interior minister shed light on furthering this relationship. More particularly both sides concurred on enhancing collaboration in the realms of security and anti-narcotics efforts. During the meeting, more topics of mutual interest were deliberated upon, alongside a thorough exploration of avenues to enhance bilateral relations.

Earlier, the interior minister welcomed the Sri-Lankan High commissioner graciously. Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Ali Agha, Chairman NADRA Lt. Gen. Muhammad Munir Officer, along with other relevant officials, were also in attendance at his arrival. Conclusively, the efforts of the interior minister played a pivotal role in release of prisoners and in accelerating amicable relations.
