On Monday, Pakistani snooker player Mohammad Asif defeated seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry in the qualifying round of the ongoing British Open 2023.
In a best-of-seven match, Asif defeated the Scottish player 4-2.
Hendry got off to a strong start with a break of 73, leaving Asif in the dust with his craft.
However, Asif did not take long to respond, winning the next three frames to establish a comfortable 3-1 lead.
In the next round, Hendry proved his seven-time world champion status by defeating Asif with a score of 74-43 in the fifth frame, cutting the Pakistani’s two-frame lead to one.
However, Asif did not succumb to the strain and won the sixth set with a break of 66 to win the tie.
Asif won the game 4-2 with 6-92, 85-11, 63-41, 58-41, 43-74, and 67-30 scores.
Asif won £3,000 in prize money after qualifying for the main draw of 64 competitors.
Pakistan’s Asjad Iqbal is also competing in the qualifying round; on Wednesday, he will meet China’s Tian Pengfei.
