According to a Wapda spokeswoman, the Neelum Jhelum Hydel Power Project will resume power generation by the end of July.
According to a Wapda official, the project’s tail race tunnel remediation work is nearing completion.
This was revealed during a management briefing provided to Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen (Retd) Sajjad Ghani during his visit to the project site.
It was reported that frantic efforts were being made to complete the remedial work being done in the project’s tail race tunnel. “The collapsed portion of the tail race tunnel’s concrete lining has been completed.”
“Other affected sections of the 3 1/2-kilometer-long tunnel have been reinforced.” After removing machinery from the tail race tunnel, cleaning work will begin next week,” said chairman Wapda.
“After the cleaning is finished, the tunnel will be filled with water.” “Power generation will begin after the tail race tunnel is filled,” Chairman Wapda was informed.
The Chairman of WAPDA urged the project team to ensure that the Hydel Power Station could be restarted by the end of the month without compromising its structural integrity.
The 969 MW-Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project began generating electricity in April 2018. The project had generated more than 18 billion units of power for the national grid prior to the collapse of its tail race tunnel last year.
