Nanjing University of Information Sciences and Technology (NUIST) is offering fully financed scholarships in the subject of Climate Change and Environmental Governance to enable Pakistani students to improve their research capacity to battle the climate issue.

Professor Dr Tong Jiang of NUIST, Executive Director of the Research Institute of Climatic and Environmental Governance, confirmed the report on Monday, saying that his department is offering fully funded scholarships in the field of Climate Change and Environmental Governance to Pakistani students.

“Our new project in Pakistan is focused on water scarcity and climate change tipping points,” he stated. Last year’s huge floods caused significant damage in Pakistan, which is now dealing with high temperatures and dryness.”

According to UN research, water scarcity is increasing in Pakistan, and water is also being drained. It is most likely due to the rising population and flaws in the water management mechanism.

He stated that Pakistan’s economic system is also centered on agriculture, and that water is an important component of this. As a result, our research would concentrate on mitigating the effects of climate change and lowering water scarcity.

He suggested that companies be relocated from cities to industrial areas, that the system be converted to renewable energy, that more people utilise reasonable public transportation, that trees be planted, and that livestock and trash from cities be properly managed.
