The Central Development Working Party (CWDP) approved three development projects worth Rs76.5 billion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh on Tuesday.

The meeting of the CDWP was presided over by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal via video link from Saudi Arabia, authorised two projects for Rs7.1 billion and cleared another project worth Rs69.4 billion for formal approval by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec).

While pursuing the three projects related to the Ministry of Communication and the provinces, the CDWP referred the Rs69.44bn KP Rural Accessibility Project to the Ecnec and approved the construction of a six-lane overhead bridge at Imamia Colony Railway Crossing Shahdara, Punjab at a cost of Rs3.958bn with the condition that the National Highway Authority charge toll tax after construction. The project is sponsored by the Ministry of Communication.

Ecnec also approved the Sindh Health Support Programme, which will cost Rs3.097 billion. The project is sponsored by the provincial government of Sindh. The project aimed to localise the National Universal Health Coverage Benefit Package in 13 Sindh districts.

The Rs69.44 billion KP Rural Accessibility Project is part of a $300 million World Bank-funded project to promote safe and climate-resilient rural access to schools, health facilities, and marketplaces in KP’s designated districts.

The loan was extended during the Covid-19 crisis and remains in place to improve access to schools and healthcare facilities through all-weather rural roads for human capital development in KP.
