Govt chalks out outsourcing plan for Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore Airports

The federal government has prepared an outsourcing strategy for the airports in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. According to reports, the Civil Aviation Authority completed the framework at the prime minister’s request.

According to insiders, a tender for the outsourcing of the airports would be issued in international periodicals.

Sources claim that the government has chosen to outsource the airports in Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore. According to insiders, “the government has intended to prioritize friendly countries for the outsourcing of airports.” According to insiders, “the enterprises from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, China, and Turkey would be invited on advantageous terms.”

According to sources citing the Planning Division, outsourcing airports will bring in between $250 million and $300 million for the nation each year.

According to insiders, the government will hire a contractor to manage airports for 25 years. Airport terminal services, parking, airport storage, cargo processing, and cleaning will all be outsourced under the terms of the arrangement, according to sources.

Airport security and air traffic control will remain part of civil aviation. According to estimates, the CAA receives Rs 30 billion annually from the three busiest airports in the nation.

In December, Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, gave the go-ahead to start the outsourcing process for three significant airports through a public-private partnership.

The process of outsourcing Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, and Islamabad International Airport was to be started by the relevant authorities.

The prime minister gave the go-ahead for all related departments to act quickly during the outsourcing process. He added that this procedure should be transparent.

The meeting was given a detailed briefing on the outsourcing of airports. It was informed that outsourcing airports are a normal profit-seeking practice throughout the world.

It was stated that the public-private partnership would initially outsource the management of the airports in Islamabad and Lahore. According to Radio Pakistan, outsourcing airports will assist improve facilities for international travelers as well as bring in money for the government.
